Girl’s Weekend

I’ve been meaning to write this post for a week and a half now but just haven’t gotten around to it. Working 40 hours a week plus 12 hours of commuting certainly takes a lot out of me. Most nights by the time that I get home, the last thing that I want to do is sit down in front of yet another computer screen. Regardless, I’m trying my best to keep up with this!

Last weekend I went down to West Hartford for a girl’s weekend. Most of us hadn’t seen each other since graduation, so we were super excited to be reunited! On Friday night, we want to Bar Taco at Blue Back Square.

It was such a cute and fun place for dinner and drinks. The food was good, but not my favorite as it was a little too spicy for me. If you love spicy Mexican food though, this is the place for you.

On Saturday morning, we woke up at 7AM to attend a free “Morning Yoga in the Streets” event. I loved every second of it.

Most of the yoga studios in the area participated and there were tons and tons of people there. The class was very fast paced and quite challenging, especially considering all of the different skill levels there. Since taking this class, I’ve been wanting to get back into practicing yoga more regularly.

Once we finished up, we headed out to brunch (my favorite part of any weekend) at the Pond House Cafe. The dining room that we ate in was located right in the middle of a big garden, with a beautiful patio that you could eat out on. They also had a huge banquet hall where they host weddings and other large events. Unfortunately, I left my phone at home and so I couldn’t take any pictures.

On top of the cute atmosphere, the food was phenomenal. I had a green apple, brie, and spinach omelet with a side of corn bread. All of the ingredients were fresh and very tasty! This was the type of place that I could imagine bringing my family for breakfast after church on Sundays. 🙂

After brunch we headed down to the Farmington River to go tubing, which was perfect because it was HOT all weekend.

We spent about 3 hours relaxing and floating down the river, all while catching up and snacking on cut up watermelon. I had a great day and would love to do this again sometime soon.

On Saturday night, we headed up to Worcester to pick up one of our friends who flew in from California for the weekend and spent the rest of the weekend hanging out with her.

There’s nothing better than laughing with your best girlfriends. I already can’t wait to see them again!

Sunday morning, Emily and I stopped for a bagel and coffee before our drive back home. It was my first time having Bruegger’s Bagels and I fell in love.

Anybody who knows me knows that I am a huge bagel person, and these certainly lived up to their reputation. I already can’t wait for my next visit to the area so I can have another one ;).

Advice From A College Senior

With graduating on my mind lately, I thought it would be fun to make a list of things that I wish I had known coming into college as a freshman. Some of these are serious, some are funny, and some are completely ridiculous- nonetheless they are all things that are beneficial to know!

  1. Keeping the guardrails on your freshman year bunk-bed is not a sign of weakness.
  2. Travel for as long as you can after your study abroad program ends, even if it takes you forever to pay it off.
  3. You will not remember one bad test grade in 10 years, 1 year, or even 1 month – relax.
  4. Having a 4.0 is not the end all be all.
  5. Just because you weren’t personally invited doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go.
  6. Invest in a pair of frat shoes very early on in your college career – wear these every weekend instead of ruining your nice boots, sperries, sandals, or wedges.
  7. Network and get to know as many people as possible. Go out of your way to say hi to them on campus.
  8. Comparing your life to others on social media will only make you miserable.
  9. Don’t judge anyone for anything – you never know when you may end up in their position.
  10. You will always regret drinking Burnetts, even if it is free.
  11. Don’t wait for people to reach out to you to make plans all the time, be the one to reach out often.
  12. Save as much money as you can for the last month of college – it is EXPENSIVE and you won’t want to miss out on anything.
  13. Don’t blow off all of your friends once you get into a relationship – balance is important.
  14. Eat vegetables and go to the gym regularly. You will feel so much better about yourself.
  15. Go on your senior year spring break trip even if you think it isn’t your scene. I guarantee you will have a blast.
  16. Stay up until 3 AM laughing with your friends and still be the first one at the library when it opens at 8 AM – again, balance!

College goes by in the blink of an eye, so take it in and enjoy every single moment.

Night Market

Last night around 8pm, our group ventured out to the Queen Victoria Night Market. We weren’t really sure what we were in for, but we knew it was supposed to be fun and have a lot of food. As we walked closer and closer, we could hear loud music and crowds of people – the market was nothing like I expected!

There were tons of food vendors everywhere. They ranged from selling kangaroo burgers to homemade macaroons of every flavor. Most of the group tried the kangaroo for dinner, but I wasn’t that hungry. I held out for dessert and had a nutella and strawberry filled crepe. 😊

The market almost reminded me of the Woodstock fair with all of the little souvenir stands, music, and people. It was really fun and I can’t wait to go again. It runs every Wednesday night in the summer here. Unfortunately, since the end of summer is coming, next week is the last one. I’m really glad we got here in time to at least see it though!

I am so happy tomorrow is Friday! This has been the longest work week ever it feels like. This weekend we are visiting Phillip Island on Saturday and going on the Yarra Valley Wine, Chocolate, and Cheese tour on Sunday. I’m very excited for both!

Also here are a few more pictures from the wildlife sanctuary that my professor passed along

St. Kilda Beach

Last night we went out for a sushi dinner and dancing. The sushi place that we went to was not my favorite.  All of the sushi was on a rotating conveyor belt and you just picked off what you wanted. The idea of that just was not my favorite so I got a made-to-order dish of tuna maki instead. It was tiny and I spent the rest of the night starving until I got home.

Today it was over 80 degrees Fahrenheit so we went to St. Kilda’s beach. It was a very relaxed, low key day – which is exactly what we needed. The only disappointment was that the water was freezing cold. I didn’t go in further than my ankles.

It was a lot different than beaches in the US, just based on the way that people were acting. There were no umbrellas, coolers, or beach toys. Most people were just laying on a single towel asleep. We were an exception to this of course.

Right now my apartment is making pasta and relaxing for a little while. Being in the sun all day definitely wore us out!

Happy Day

Happy Monday! Today is especially great because Conor will be home from Scotland in just a few hours. 🙂 He has been there for the past week participating in the Worldwide Bagpipe Championships. He has been playing since he was only eight years old along with his two older brothers. They are so talented and I admire them so much for sticking with an instrument for such a long time.

They placed 11th out of 28 countries over in Glasgow on Saturday and I couldn’t be more proud. Sorry for the short post but I’m off to see my handsome bagpiper now. 🙂
