Each January I find myself struggling to set my goals for the year. This may be because I tend to make small goals and resolutions for myself year round – rather than trying to tackle too much at once. This is what I’ve been telling myself at least.
After much thinking lately though, I think that I try to steer away from New Year’s Resolutions because I’m afraid that I won’t meet them. According to Statistic Brain, each year, only 9.2% of people have success sticking to their resolutions– which is crazy to me!!
I decided that this year I am going to be one of the few and make it a priority to meet my goals. Here are a few of the goals that I set to try and make 2017 the best year yet.
1. Be more INTENTIONAL
To live more intentionally means that you are present and engaged in the every day ongoings of your life. You make choices to consciously better your quality of life. This could be as simple as getting off of Facebook and focusing on conversation with your family. It means that I will focus on doing things that I know will make me happy and add value to my life, rather than just fill time.
2. Stop caring what others think
This is something that I struggle with every day. I have gotten better in the past year, but there is still definitely room for improvement. Occasionally I find myself not doing things that I want to do out of fear that others will be judgmental or look down upon me. I constantly question what people are thinking about the things that I do, and I’ll be the first to say that I just care way too much. This is no way to live and is something that I have been trying really hard to change.
3. Share Always My Sunshine with friends
I really want to focus on this blog in the upcoming year. Only a handful of family members and friends know about it, and I would love to expand the number of people that I reach. I’m not putting a time limit on this, because I really want to find my niche. I want to be completely enamored with my blog before I share it with others. I often go back and forth debating what I want this space to be focused on – whether it be traveling, food, fitness, fashion, or just life in general. While I know what I want to achieve with my writing, I still haven’t determined the best method of doing so. Regardless, I have big goals and am excited to see them unfold!
4. Journal every day
Last year around this time I bought myself a journal and faithfully wrote in it each morning before school. I documented things I was worried about, grateful for, praying for, and everything in between. I not only loved being able to look back on these entries to see how far I had come, but I loved the weight that journaling took off of my shoulders. I could share anything that I wanted without the feeling that I was bothering others with my worries, complaining too much, or boasting too much about the wonderful things in my life. I would highly recommend journaling daily if you have never tried it!
I have a few other personal and work related goals, but these four will be my major focus in 2017!
xo,
Jaclyn
